I'm no prophetA
My old man wasn't oneB
Neither do I belongC
To any prophetic schoolD
But from what I seeE
I've got to speak outF
That we live in a nationB
That loves its neighboursE
More than itselfG
Sacrifices its peopleH
To benefit othersE
-
What's this that I hearI
For Nigeria to sign an MoUJ
With Niger is the biggest embarrassmentK
Why Niger has no crudeL
Nigeria hasE
Nigeria sends crude to NigerM
Niger refines and sends products to NigeriaN
-
Shame on them allO
Shame on me for it's the worst timeJ
To be a NigerianB
They have sold us offP
Like fake commoditiesE
The holy book said it long agoQ
Those who utilize not their talentsE
Would have them takenB
And given to those who haveR
This is Nigeria their NigeriaN

Poet's note: Nigeria is among the highest crude oil producers in the world. But apart from being pauperized, Nigeria has no functional refineries and keeps importing refined oil at very exorbitant prices. Recently, Nigeria singed an MoU with Niger Republic to be importing refined oil from Niger which has just built a refinery. Niger has no crude and depends on Nigeria for crude. Not only that Niger hasn't the capacity that Nigeria has. Yet Nigeria is willing to import from Niger thereby enriching the country. The poem decries the attitude of Nigerian leaders who prefer to please her neighbours to the detriment of her own people.
