Rhyme Scheme: ABCDCEFGAHFIJA FJKFKLMK FKAKFKJA KAANJAKDA

Looking at the faceA
Of the man on the posterB
I put myselfC
In the dead man's shoeD
I imagine myselfC
Like the man in the morgueE
LonelyF
AbandonedG
FriendlessA
NakedH
EmptyF
UnwantedI
Ready for the earthJ
Good for only wormsA
-
-
It could be meF
The proud earthJ
With intelligence and prideK
Religious fundamentalism and bigotryF
I a racial cum ethnic and political jingoistK
Ready to fight and killL
For what I hold dearM
Now leftK
-
LonelyF
AbandonedK
FriendlessA
NakedK
EmptyF
UnwantedK
Ready for the earthJ
Good for only wormsA
-
My good friend once wroteK
Men do terrible thingsA
To please their tribesA
Races or religions but whichN
Throw them six feet below the earthJ
When their breath ceasesA
Or pile up woodK
And roast them like barbecueD
On a pier and burn them to useless ashesA

Poet's note: The death of someone I know set me thinking about the futility of life and the uselessness of fighting religious or tribal or racial wars. When a warrior dies, he is no longer useful to the people he fought for. I suggest in the poem we should live in peace and not fight unnecessary wars.
