How fondly I remember the delight | A |
That always glorified him in the spring | C |
The joyous courage and the benedight | A |

He was a good old man and it was right | A |
That he should have his fling | C |
- | |
And often underneath the apple trees | D |
When we surprised him in the summer time | E |
With what superb magnificence and ease | D |
He sinned enough to make the day sublime | E |
And if he liked us there about his knees | D |
Truly it was no crime | E |

He charmed the seasons out with pageantry | J |
Wearing upon his forehead with no fear | I |
The laurel of approved iniquity | J |
And every child who knew him far or near | I |
Did love him faithfully | J |
