Uncle Ananias Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAA ACACAC DEDEDE FGFGFH IJIJIJ

His words were magic and his heart was trueA
And everywhere he wandered he was blessedB
Out of all ancient men my childhood knewA
I choose him and I mark him for the bestB
Of all authoritative liars tooA
I crown him loveliestA
-
How fondly I remember the delightA
That always glorified him in the springC
The joyous courage and the benedightA
Profusion of his faith in everythingC
He was a good old man and it was rightA
That he should have his flingC
-
And often underneath the apple treesD
When we surprised him in the summer timeE
With what superb magnificence and easeD
He sinned enough to make the day sublimeE
And if he liked us there about his kneesD
Truly it was no crimeE
-
All summer long we loved him for the sameF
Perennial inspiration of his liesG
And when the russet wealth of autumn cameF
There flew but fairer visions to our eyesG
Multiple tropical winged with a feathery flameF
Like birds of paradiseH
-
So to the sheltered end of many a yearI
He charmed the seasons out with pageantryJ
Wearing upon his forehead with no fearI
The laurel of approved iniquityJ
And every child who knew him far or nearI
Did love him faithfullyJ
