By some forgotten chance when I was young | B |
Had once a glimmering window overhung | B |
With honeysuckle wet with evening dew | A |
Along the path tall dusky dahlias grew | A |
And shadowy hydrangeas reached and swung | B |
Ferociously and over me among | B |
The moths and mysteries a blurred bat flew | A |
- | |
Somewhere within there were dim presences | C |
Of days that hovered and of years gone by | D |
I waited and between their silences | C |
There was an evanescent faded noise | E |
And though a child I knew it was the voice | F |
Of one whose occupation was to die | D |
