Richard Cory Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HEHE

Whenever Richard Cory went down townA
We people on the pavement looked at himB
He was a gentleman from sole to crownA
Clean favored and imperially slimB
-
And he was always quietly arrayedC
And he was always human when he talkedD
But still he fluttered pulses when he saidE
Good morning and he glittered when he walkedD
-
And he was rich yes richer than a kingF
And admirably schooled in every graceG
In fine we thought that he was everythingF
To make us wish that we were in his placeG
-
So on we worked and waited for the lightH
And went without the meat and cursed the breadE
And Richard Cory one calm summer nightH
Went home and put a bullet through his headE
