Luke Havergal Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBAAAA CCDDCECC FFAAGFFF AAHHAAAA

Go to the western gate Luke HavergalA
There where the vines cling crimson on the wallA
And in the twilight wait for what will comeB
The wind will moan the leaves will whisper someB
Whisper of her and strike you as they fallA
But go and if you trust her she will callA
Go to the western gate Luke HavergalA
Luke HavergalA
-
No there is not a dawn in eastern skiesC
To rift the fiery night that's in your eyesC
But there where western glooms are gatheringD
The dark will end the dark if anythingD
God slays Himself with every leaf that fliesC
And hell is more than half of paradiseE
No there is not a dawn in eastern skiesC
In eastern skiesC
-
Out of a grave I come to tell you thisF
Out of a grave I come to quench the kissF
That flames upon your forehead with a glowA
That blinds you to the way that you must goA
Yes there is yet one way to where she isG
Bitter but one that faith can never missF
Out of a grave I come to tell you thisF
To tell you thisF
-
There is the western gate Luke HavergalA
There are the crimson leaves upon the wallA
Go for the winds are tearing them awayH
Nor think to riddle the dead words they sayH
Nor any more to feel them as they fallA
But go and if you trust her she will callA
There is the western gate Luke HavergalA
Luke HavergalA
