Fleming Helphenstine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAAAAA CDECDE| At first I thought there was a superfine | A |
| Persuasion in his face but the free glow | B |
| That filled it when he stopped and cried Hollo | B |
| Shone joyously and so I let it shine | A |
| He said his name was Fleming Helphenstine | A |
| But be that as it may I only know | A |
| He talked of this and that and So and So | A |
| And laughed and chaffed like any friend of mine | A |
| - | |
| But soon with a queer quick frown he looked at me | C |
| And I looked hard at him and there we gazed | D |
| With a strained shame that made us cringe and wince | E |
| Then with a wordless clogged apology | C |
| That sounded half confused and half amazed | D |
| He dodged and I have never seen him since | E |
