Charles Carville's Eyes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCEFD

A melanholy face Charles Carville hadA
But not so melancholy as it seemedB
When once you knew him for his mouth redeemedB
His insufficient eyes forever sadA
In them there was no life glimpse good or badA
Nor joy nor passion in them ever gleamedB
His mouth was all of him that ever beamedB
His eyes were sorry but his mouth was gladA
-
He never was a fellow that said muchC
And half of what he did say was not heardD
By many of us we were out of touchC
With all his whims and all his theoriesE
Till he was dead so those blank eyes of hisF
Might speak them Then we heard them every wordD
