Calvary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBABA CDCEED

Friendless and faint with martyred steps and slowA
Faint for the flesh but for the spirit freeB
Stung by the mob that came to see the showA
The Master toiled along to CalvaryB
We gibed him as he went with houndish gleeB
Till his dimmed eyes for us did overflowA
We cursed his vengeless hands thrice wretchedlyB
And this was nineteen hundred years agoA
-
But after nineteen hundred years the shameC
Still clings and we have not made good the lossD
That outraged faith has entered in his nameC
Ah when shall come love's courage to be strongE
Tell me O Lord tell me O Lord how longE
Are we to keep Christ writhing on the crossD
