Alma Mater Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDEFFE

He knocked and I beheld him at the doorA
A vision for the gods to verifyB
What battered ancientry is this thought IB
And when if ever did we meet beforeA
But ask him as I might I got no moreA
For answer than a moaning and a cryB
Too late to parley but in time to dieB
He staggered and lay shapeless on the floorA
-
When had I known him And what brought him hereC
Love warning malediction hunger fearD
Surely I never thwarted such as heE
Again what soiled obscurity was thisF
Out of what scum and up from what abyssF
Had they arrived these rags of memoryE
