No one so much as youA
Loves this my clayB
Or would lament as youA
Its dying dayB
-
You know me through and throughA
Though I have not toldC
And though with what you knowD
You are not boldC
-
None ever was so fairE
As I thought youA
Not a word can I bearE
Spoken against youA
-
All that I ever didF
For you seemed coarseG
Compared with what I hidF
Nor put in forceG
-
My eyes scarce dare meet youA
Lest they should proveH
I but respond to youA
And do not loveI
-
We look and understandJ
We cannot speakK
Except in trifles andL
Words the most weakK
-
For I at most acceptM
Your love regrettingN
That is all I have keptM
Only a frettingN
-
That I could not returnO
All that you gaveP
And could not ever burnO
With the love you haveQ
-
Till sometimes it did seemR
Better it wereS
Never to see you moreT
Than linger hereU
-
With only gratitudeV
Instead of loveI
A pine in solitudeV
Cradling a doveI
