Health Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFG GHEIJKLA MANOPQRRJMRS TTURUFRLVJWJX YZYYNYUFour miles at a leap over the dark hollow land | A |
To the frosted steep of the down and its junipers black | B |
Travels my eye with equal ease and delight | C |
And scarce could my body leap four yards | D |
- | |
This is the best and the worst of it | E |
Never to know | F |
Yet to imagine gloriously pure health | G |
- | |
To day had I suddenly health | G |
I could not satisfy the desire of my heart | H |
Unless health abated it | E |
So beautiful is the air in its softness and clearness while | I |
Spring | J |
Promises all and fails in nothing as yet | K |
And what blue and what white is I never knew | L |
Before I saw this sky blessing the land | A |
- | |
For had I health I could not ride or run or fly | M |
So far or so rapidly over the land | A |
As I desire I should reach Wiltshire tired | N |
I should have changed my mind before I could be in Wales | O |
I could not love I could not command love | P |
beauty would still be far off | Q |
However many hills I climbed over | R |
Peace would still be farther | R |
Maybe I should not count it anything | J |
To leap these four miles with the eye | M |
And either I should not be filled almost to bursting with desire | R |
Or with my power desire would still keep pace | S |
- | |
Yet I am not satisfied | T |
Even with knowing I never could be satisfied | T |
With health and all the power that lies | U |
In maiden beauty poet and warrior | R |
In Caesar Shakespeare Alcibiades | U |
Mazeppa Leonardo Michelangelo | F |
In any maiden whose smile is lovelier | R |
Than sunlight upon dew | L |
I could not be as the wagtail running up and down | V |
The warm tiles of the roof slope twittering | J |
Happily and sweetly as if the sun itself | W |
Extracted the song | J |
As the hand makes sparks from the fur of a cat | X |
- | |
I could not be as the sun | Y |
Nor should I be content to be | Z |
As little as the bird or as mighty as the sun | Y |
For the bird knows not the sun | Y |
And the sun regards not the bird | N |
But I am almost proud to love both bird and sun | Y |
Though scarce this Spring could my body leap four yards | U |
