Celandine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCADBE FCFCGHIIGJJ IKLGK

Thinking of her had saddened me at firstA
Until I saw the sun on the celandines lieB
Redoubled and she stood up like a flameC
A living thing not what before I nursedA
The shadow I was growing to love almostD
The phantom not the creature with bright eyeB
That I had thought never to see once lostE
-
She found the celandines of FebruaryF
Always before us all Her nature and nameC
Were like those flowers and now immediatelyF
For a short swift eternity back she cameC
Beautiful happy simply as when she woreG
Her brightest bloom among the winter huesH
Of all the world and I was happy tooI
Seeing the blossoms and the maiden whoI
Had seen them with me Februarys beforeG
Bending to them as in and out she trodJ
And laughed with locks sweeping the mossy sodJ
-
But this was a dream the flowers were not trueI
Until I stooped to pluck from the grass thereK
One of five petals and I smelt the juiceL
Which made me sigh remembering she was no moreG
Gone like a never perfectly recalled airK
