As The Team's Head- Brass Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIBJI KL MNO BPQRSTUVW XYQNNZA2B2

As the team's head brass flashed out on the turnA
The lovers disappeared into the woodB
I sat among the boughs of the fallen elmC
That strewed the angle of the fallow andD
Watched the plough narrowing a yellow squareE
Of charlock Every time the horses turnedF
Instead of treading me down the ploughman leanedG
Upon the handles to say or ask a wordH
About the weather next about the warI
Scraping the share he faced towards the woodB
And screwed along the furrow till the brass flashedJ
Once moreI
-
The blizzard felled the elm whose crestK
I sat in by a woodpecker's round holeL
The ploughman said 'When will they take it away '-
'When the war's over ' So the talk beganM
One minute and an interval of tenN
A minute more and the same intervalO
'Have you been out ' 'No ' 'And don't want to perhaps '-
'If I could only come back again I shouldB
I could spare an arm I shouldn't want to loseP
A leg If I should lose my head why soQ
I should want nothing more Have many goneR
From here ' 'Yes ' 'Many lost ' 'Yes a good fewS
Only two teams work on the farm this yearT
One of my mates is dead The second dayU
In France they killed him It was back in MarchV
The very night of the blizzard too Now ifW
He had stayed here we should have moved the tree '-
'And I should not have sat here EverythingX
Would have been different For it would have beenY
Another world ' 'Ay and a better thoughQ
If we could see all all might seem good ' ThenN
The lovers came out of the wood againN
The horses started and for the last timeZ
I watched the clods crumble and topple overA2
After the ploughshare and the stumbling teamB2
