Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DDDEEFF GGGHIJHHH KKKLLLThere's not a soul on the square | A |

- | |
And when the wind eddies it rifts | D |
The snow that lies in drifts | D |
And it skims along the walk and sifts | D |
In stairways doorways all about | E |
The steps of the church in an angry rout | E |
And one would think that a hungry hound | F |
Was out in the cold for the sound | F |
- | |
But I do not seem to mind | G |
The snow that makes one blind | G |
Nor the crying voice of the wind | G |
I hate to hear the creak of the sign | H |
Of Harmon Whitney attorney at law | I |
With its rhythmic monotone of awe | J |
And neither a moan nor yet a whine | H |
Nor a cry of pain one can't define | H |
The sound of a creaking sign | H |

Especially if the sky be bleak | K |
And no one stirs however you seek | K |
And every time you hear it creak | K |
You wonder why they leave it stay | L |
When a man is buried and hidden away | L |
Many a day | L |
