Neglected Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCC DCDCCECE FGFHICIC JHJHKCKC JEJEJCJ| I DON'T get much attention now | A |
| Although I'm not complaining | B |
| I'm forced to get on anyhow | A |
| Another king is reigning | B |
| She doesn't run to wait on me | C |
| However rushed I may be | C |
| Whene'er I need assistance she | C |
| Is busy with the baby | C |
| - | |
| Time was my shirts were all laid out | D |
| And all my duds were handy | C |
| And those were days without a doubt | D |
| When things were fine and dandy | C |
| But now the time she gave to me | C |
| She's giving to another | E |
| It keeps her busy just to be | C |
| A fond and doting mother | E |
| - | |
| Oh I cut quite a figure then | F |
| To something I amounted | G |
| I stood above all other men | F |
| With her I only counted | H |
| Then often I was petted too | I |
| And cheered when things went badly | C |
| But now another's come to woo | I |
| And I'm neglected sadly | C |
| - | |
| And now I come and go each day | J |
| Just merely tolerated | H |
| And often I am in the way | J |
| As she has plainly stated | H |
| My wants I'm forced to fill myself | K |
| However hard it may be | C |
| Oh I've been put upon the shelf | K |
| And put there by a baby | C |
| - | |
| And yet upon that shelf I'd stay | J |
| And all complainings smother | E |
| The lad who took my wife away | J |
| Has given me his mother | E |
| And every night I kneel and pray | J |
| That never will the day be | C |
| That I shall fail to hear her say | J |
| 'I'm busy with the baby ' | - |
