here is little Effie's headA
whose brains are made of gingerbreadA
when the judgment day comesB
God will find six crumbsB
-
stooping by the coffinlidA
waiting for something to riseC
as the other somethings didA
you imagine His surpriseC
-
bellowing through the general noiseD
Where is Effie who was deadA
to God in a tiny voiceE
i am may the first crumb saidA
-
whereupon its fellow fiveF
crumbs chuckled as if they were aliveF
and number two took up the songG
might i'm called and did no wrongG
-
cried the third crumb i am shouldA
and this is my little sister couldA
with our big brother who is wouldA
don't punish us for we were goodA
-
and the last crumb with some shameH
whispered unto God my nameH
is must and with the others i'veF
been Effie who isn't aliveF
-
just imagine it I sayI
God amid a monstrous dinJ
watch your step and follow meK
stooping by Effie's little inJ
-
want a match or can you seeK
which the six subjunctive crumbsB
twitch like mutilated thumbsB
picture His peering biggest wheyI
-
coloured face on which a frownL
puzzles but I know the wayI
nervously Whose eyes approveM
the blessed while His ears are crammedA
-
with the strenuous music ofN
the innumerable capering damnedA
staring wildly up and downL
the here we are now judgment dayI
-
cross the threshold have no dreadA
lift the sheet back in this wayI
here is little Effie's headA
whose brains are made of gingerbreadA
