The False Friends Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

They laid their hands upon my headA
They stroked my cheek and browB
And time could heal a hurt they saidA
And time could dim a vowB
-
And they were pitiful and mildC
Who whispered to me thenD
The heart that breaks in April childC
Will mend in May againD
-
Oh many a mended heart they knewE
So old they were and wiseF
And little did they have to doE
To come to me with liesF
-
Who flings me silly talk of MayG
Shall meet a bitter soulH
For June was nearly spent awayG
Before my heart was wholeH
