The Evening Of The Mind Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKE LMNGOEPQFEBRNow comes the evening of the mind | A |
Here are the fireflies twitching in the blood | B |
Here is the shadow moving down the page | C |
Where you sit reading by the garden wall | D |
Now the dwarf peach trees nailed to their trellises | E |
Shudder and droop Your know their voices now | F |
Faintly the martyred peaches crying out | G |
Your name the name nobody knows but you | H |
It is the aura and the coming on | I |
It is the thing descending circling here | J |
And now it puts a claw out and you take it | K |
Thankfully in your lap you take it so | E |
- | |
You said you would not go away again | L |
You did not want to go away and yet | M |
It is as if you stood out on the dock | N |
Watching a little boat drift out | G |
Beyond the sawgrass shallows the dead fish | O |
And you were in it skimming past old snags | E |
Beyond beyond under a brazen sky | P |
As soundless as a gong before it's struck | Q |
Suspended how and now they strike it now | F |
The ether dream of five years old repeats repeats | E |
And you must wake again to your own blood | B |
And empty spaces in the throat | R |
