Les mortsA

Our diaries squatted toad likeE
On dark closet ledgesA
Forget me not and thistleF
Decalcomaned the pagesA
But where where are they nowG
All the sad squalorsA
Of those between wars parlorsA
Cut flowers and the sunlight spilt like sodaB
On torporous rugs the photoH
Albums all outspreadH
The deadH
Don t get around much anymoreI

-
There was an hour when daughtersA
Practiced arpeggiosA
Their mothers awkward and proudH
Would listen smoothing their hoseA
Sundays half past fiveJ
Do you recallK
How the sun used to lollL
Lazily just beyond the roofM
Bloodshot and aloofM
We thought it would never setH
The dead don t getH
Around much anymoreI
-
-
Eternity resemblesA
One long Sunday afternoonN
No traffic passes the cigar smokeE
Curls in a blue cocoonN
Children have you nothingE
For our cold sakesA
No tea No little tea cakesA
Sometimes now the rains disturbO
Even our remote suburbO
There s a dampness undergroundH
The dead don t get aroundH
Much anymoreI
