A fallen tree
   just like me
lost in the woods
  of History

  and you you fly
above the ground
you look around
but never down

you can't see me
for Heaven's sake
In the mirror
on the lake

You can't hear me
now or ever
and yet you think
you are so clever

you think you read
my open book
turn the cover
and take a look

You don't know me
   never will
I stood beside you
on the hill

and down the road
we go alone
the end is darkness
and a silent moan

All in all
the past has passed
goodwill toward men
until the last

If man was born
then man will die
it's a fact of life
one can't deny

I gave you Liberty
you gave me death
we've lost our way
I'm out of breath
