The Foggy, Foggy Blue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE ECECEEGEHEHE IJKJLJEBEMCM

When I was a young man I loved to write poemsA
And I called a spade a spadeB
And the only only thing that made me singC
Was to lift the masks at the masqueradeB
I took them off my own faceD
I took them off others tooE
And the only only wrong in all my songF
Was the view that I knew what was trueE
-
-
Now I am older and tireder tooE
And the tasks with the masks are quite tryingC
I d gladly gladly stop if I only only knewE
A better way to keep from lyingC
And not get nervous and blueE
When I said something quite untrueE
I looked all around and all overG
To find something else to doE
I tried to be less romanticH
I tried to be less starry eyed tooE
But I only got mixed up and franticH
Forgetting what was false and what was trueE
-
-
But tonight I am going to the masked ballI
Because it has occurred to meJ
That the masks are more true than the facesK
Perhaps this too is poetryJ
I no longer yearn to be na ve and sternL
And masked balls fascinate meJ
Now that I know that most falsehoods are trueE
Perhaps I can join the charadeB
This is at any rate my new and true viewE
Let live and believe I sayM
The only only thing is to believe in everythingC
It s more fun and safer that wayM
