Rhyme Scheme: ABBCABBC DEDEFF

A Sonnet is a moment's monumentA
Memorial from the Soul's eternityB
To one dead deathless hour Look that it beB
Whether for lustral rite or dire portentC
Of its own arduous fulness reverentA
Carve it in ivory or in ebonyB
As Day or Night may rule and let Time seeB
Its flowering crest impearled and orientC
-
A Sonnet is a coin its face revealsD
The soul its converse to what Power 'tis dueE
Whether for tribute to the august appealsD
Of Life or dower in Love's high retinueE
It serve or 'mid the dark wharf's cavernous breathF
In Charon's palm it pay the toll to DeathF
