The Cloud Confines Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCCADEDE FGGFHHHFDEDE IJJIKKKIDEDE LMMLNNNLDEDE NNNOPPPNDEDE

The day is dark and the nightA
To him that would search their heartB
No lips of cloud that will partB
Nor morning song in the lightA
Only gazing aloneC
To him wild shadows are shownC
Deep under deep unknownC
And height above unknown heightA
Still we say as we goD
Strange to think by the wayE
Whatever there is to knowD
That shall we know one dayE
-
The Past is over and fledF
Nam'd new we name it the oldG
Thereof some tale hath been toldG
But no word comes from the deadF
Whether at all they beH
Or whether as bond or freeH
Or whether they too were weH
Or by what spell they have spedF
Still we say as we goD
Strange to think by the wayE
Whatever there is to knowD
That shall we know one dayE
-
What of the heart of hateI
That beats in thy breast O TimeJ
Red strife from the furthest primeJ
And anguish of fierce debateI
War that shatters her slainK
And peace that grinds them as grainK
And eyes fix'd ever in vainK
On the pitiless eyes of FateI
Still we say as we goD
Strange to think by the wayE
Whatever there is to knowD
That shall we know one dayE
-
What of the heart of loveL
That bleeds in thy breast O ManM
Thy kisses snatch'd 'neath the banM
Of fangs that mock them aboveL
Thy bells prolong'd unto knellsN
Thy hope that a breath dispelsN
Thy bitter forlorn farewellsN
And the empty echoes thereofL
Still we say as we goD
Strange to think by the wayE
Whatever there is to knowD
That shall we know one dayE
-
The sky leans dumb on the seaN
Aweary with all its wingsN
And oh the song the sea singsN
Is dark everlastinglyO
Our past is clean forgotP
Our present is and is notP
Our future's a seal'd seedplotP
And what betwixt them are weN
We who say as we goD
Strange to think by the wayE
Whatever there is to knowD
That shall we know one dayE
