Sacrament Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDFGFGHIHIJKJL

ON a fair Sabbath day when His banquet is spreadA
It is pleasant to feast with my LordB
His stewards stand robed at the foot and the headA
Of the soul filling life giving boardB
All the guests here had burthens but by the King's grantC
We left them behind when we cameD
The burthen of wealth and the burthen of wantE
And even the burthen of shameD
And oh when we take them again at the gateF
Though still we must bear them awhileG
Much smaller they'll seem in the lane that grows straitF
And much lighter to lift at the stileG
For that which is in us is life to the heartH
Is dew to the soles of the feetI
Fresh strength to the loins giving ease from their smartH
Warmth in frost and a breeze in the heatI
No feast where the belly alone hath its fillJ
He gives me His body and bloodK
The blood and the body I'll think of it stillJ
Of my Lord which is Christ which is GodL
