The river reaches wind	A
The whispering trees accept the breeze	B
The ripple's cool and kind	A
With love low whispered 'twixt the shores	C
With rippling laughters gay	D
With white arms bared to ply the oars	C
On last year's first of May	D
Between Holmscote and Hurstcote	A
The river's brimmed with rain	E
Through close met banks and parted banks	F
Now near now far again	G
With parting tears caressed to smiles	H
With meeting promised soon	I
With every sweet vow that beguiles	H
On last year's first of June	I
Between Holmscote and Hurstcote	A
The river's flecked with foam	J
'Neath shuddering clouds that hang in shrouds	H
And lost winds wild for home	J
With infant wailings at the breast	A
With homeless steps astray	D
With wanderings shuddering tow'rds one rest	A
On this year's first of May	D

The summer river flows	H
With doubled flight of moons by night	A
And lilies' deep repose	H
With lo beneath the moon's white stare	K
A white face not the moon	I
With lilies meshed in tangled hair	K
On this year's first of June	I

A troth was given and riven	L
From heart's trust grew one life to two	M
Two lost lives cry to Heaven	L
With banks spread calm to meet the sky	N
With meadows newly mowed	A
The harvest paths of glad July	N
