Antwerp And Bruges Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBCCBBCDEEDDFBG GBBH

I climbed the stair in Antwerp churchA
What time the circling thews of soundB
At sunset seem to heave it roundB
Far up the carillon did searchA
The wind and the birds came to perchA
Far under where the gables woundB
In Antwerp harbour on the ScheldtB
I stood along a certain spaceC
Of night The mist was near my faceC
Deep on the flow was heard and feltB
The carillon kept pause and dweltB
In music through the silent placeC
John Memmeling and John van EyckD
Hold state at Bruges In sore shameE
I scanned the works that keep their nameE
The carillon which then did strikeD
Mine ears was heard of theirs alikeD
It set me closer unto themF
I climbed at Bruges all the flightB
The belfry has of ancient stoneG
For leagues I saw the east wind blownG
The earth was grey the sky was whiteB
I stood so near upon the heightB
That my flesh felt the carillonH
