Winter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABA CD EFG HIJ KLM NOPN QOERS TUVW XY RZ

The pungent smells of a California winterA
Grayness and rosiness an almost transparent full moonB
I add logs to the fire I drink and I ponderA
-
-
In Ilawa the news item said at ageC
Died Aleksander Rymkiewicz poetD
-
-
He was the youngest in our group I patronized him slightlyE
Just as I patronized others for their inferior mindsF
Though they had many virtues I couldn t touchG
-
-
And so I am here approaching the endH
Of the century and of my life Proud of my strengthI
Yet embarrassed by the clearness of the viewJ
-
-
Avant gardes mixed with bloodK
The ashes of inconceivable artsL
An omnium gatherum of chaosM
-
-
I passed judgment on that Though marked myselfN
This hasn t been the age for the righteous and the decentO
I know what it means to beget monstersP
And to recognize in them myselfN
-
-
You moon You Aleksander fire of cedar logsQ
Waters close over us a name lasts but an instantO
Not important whether the generations hold us in memoryE
Great was that chase with the hounds for the unattainable meaning ofR
the worldS
-
-
And now I am ready to keep runningT
When the sun rises beyond the borderlands of deathU
I already see mountain ridges in the heavenly forestV
Where beyond every essence a new essence waitsW
-
-
You music of my late years I am calledX
By a sound and a color which are more and more perfectY
-
-
Do not die out fire Enter my dreams loveR
Be young forever seasons of the earthZ
