What Does It Mean Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEFC GHIJKL GKMN

It does not know it glittersA
It does not know it fliesB
It does not know it is this not thatC
-
And more and more often agapeD
With my Gauloise dying outE
Over a glass of red wineF
I muse on the meaning of being this not thatC
-
Just as long ago when I was twentyG
But then there was a hope I would be everythingH
Perhaps even a butterfly or a thrush by magicI
Now I see dusty district roadsJ
And a town where the postmaster gets drunk every dayK
Melancholy with remaining identical to himselfL
-
If only the stars contained meG
If only everything kept happening in such a wayK
That the so called world opposed the so called fleshM
Were I at least not contradictory AlasN
