Raja I wish I knewA
the cause of that maladyB
For years I could not acceptC
the place I was inD
I felt I should be somewhere elseE
-
A city trees human voicesF
lacked the quality of presenceG
I would live by the hope of moving onH
-
Somewhere else there was a city of real presenceG
of real trees and voices and friendship and loveI
-
Link if you wish my peculiar caseJ
on the border of schizophreniaK
to the messianic hopeL
of my civilizationM
-
Ill at ease in the tyranny ill at ease in the republicN
in the one I longed for freedom in the other for the end of corruptionM
Building in my mind a permanent polisO
forever deprived of aimless bustleP
-
I learned at last to say this is my homeQ
here before the glowing coal of ocean sunsetsR
on the shore which faces the shores of your AsiaK
in a great republic moderately corruptS
-
Raja this did not cure meB
of my guilt and shameT
A shame of failing to beB
what I should have beenD
-
The image of myselfU
grows gigantic on the wallV
and against itW
my miserable shadowX
-
That's how I came to believeY
in Original SinD
which is nothing but the firstZ
victory of the egoX
-
Tormented by my ego deluded by itW
I give you as you see a ready argumentA2
-
I hear you saying that liberation is possibleP
and that Socratic wisdomB2
is identical with your guru'sC2
-
No Raja I must start from what I amD2
I am those monsters which visit my dreamsE2
and reveal to me my hidden essenceG
-
If I am sick there is no proof whatsoeverF2
that man is a healthy creatureF2
-
Greece had to lose her pure consciousnessO
had to make our agony only more acuteG2
-
We needed God loving us in our weaknessO
and not in the glory of beatitudeG2
-
No help Raja my part is agonyB
struggle abjection self love and self hateG2
prayer for the KingdomB2
and reading PascalH2
