I Sleep A Lot Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHI JKLMN OPQRLSTUPMM ORVRIWRGXR RRYM

I sleep a lot and read St Thomas AquinasA
Or The Death of God that's a Protestant bookB
To the right the bay as if molten tinC
Beyond the bay city beyond the city oceanD
Beyond the ocean ocean till JapanE
To the left dry hills with white grassF
Beyond the hills an irrigated valley where rice is grownG
Beyond the valley mountains and Ponderosa pinesH
Beyond the mountains desert and sheepI
-
When I couldn't do without alcohol I drove myself on alcoholJ
When I couldn't do without cigarettes and coffee I drove myselfK
On cigarettes and coffeeL
I was courageous Industrious Nearly a model of virtueM
But that is good for nothingN
-
I feel a painO
not here Even I don't knowP
many islands and continentsQ
words bazaars wooden flutesR
Or too much drinking to the mirror without beautyL
Though one was to be a kind of archangelS
Or a Saint George over there on St George StreetT
Please DoctorU
Not here NoP
Maybe it's tooM
UnpronouncedM
-
Please Medicine Man I feel a painO
I always believed in spells and incantationsR
Sure women have only one Catholic soulV
But we have two When you start to danceR
You visit remote pueblos in your sleepI
And even lands you have never seenW
Put on I beg you charms made of feathersR
Now it's time to help one of your ownG
I have read many books but I don't believe themX
When it hurts we return to the banks of certain riversR
-
I remember those crosses with chiseled suns and moonsR
And wizards how they worked during an outbreak of typhusR
Send your second soul beyond the mountains beyond timeY
Tell me what you saw I will waitM
