Dedication Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDB EFBG HBAI AEJKLMNF ODPQ

You whom I could not saveA
Listen to meB
Try to understand this simple speech as I would be ashamed of anotherC
I swear there is in me no wizardry of wordsD
I speak to you with silence like a cloud or a treeB
-
What strengthened me for you was lethalE
You mixed up farewell to an epoch with the beginning of a new oneF
Inspiration of hatred with lyrical beautyB
Blind force with accomplished shapeG
-
Here is the valley of shallow Polish rivers And an immense bridgeH
Going into white fog Here is a broken cityB
And the wind throws the screams of gulls on your graveA
When I am talking with youI
-
What is poetry which does not saveA
Nations or peopleE
A connivance with official liesJ
A song of drunkards whose throats will be cut in a momentK
Readings for sophomore girlsL
That I wanted good poetry without knowing itM
That I discovered late its salutary aimN
In this and only this I find salvationF
-
They used to pour millet on graves or poppy seedsO
To feed the dead who would come disguised as birdsD
I put this book here for you who once livedP
So that you should visit us no moreQ
