A Felicitous Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG HIJ KLMN

His old age fell on years of abundant harvestA
There were no earthquakes droughts or floodsB
It seemed as if the turning of the seasons gained in constancyC
Stars waxed strong and the sun increased its mightD
Even in remote provinces no war was wagedE
Generations grew up friendly to fellow menF
The rational nature of man was not a subject of derisionG
-
-
It was bitter to say farewell to the earth so renewedH
He was envious and ashamed of his doubtI
Content that his lacerated memory would vanish with himJ
-
-
Two days after his death a hurricane razed the coastsK
Smoke came from volcanoes inactive for a hundred yearsL
Lava sprawled over forests vineyards and townsM
And war began with a battle on the islandsN
