They say the eagle is a birdA
That sees some splendid sightsB
When he soars high into the skyC
Upon his dizzy flightsB
He sees the ground for miles aroundD
Our house and Billy Johnson'sE
But we can not be Eagles forF
That would of course be nonsenseG
-
But you and I some summer dayH
Providing we're allowedI
Will go up in an aeroplaneJ
And sail right through a cloudI
But if they say we may not goK
We'll stay upon the groundD
With other things that have no wingsL
And watch them walk aroundD
-
They say the bottom of the seaM
Is beautiful to viewN
They say the fish whene'er they wishO
Can sail and see 'it tooN
The shining pearls the coral curlsP
The sharks the squids the schnappersP
And fish with fins though not in tinsP
And fish with funny flappersP
-
But you and I some sunny dayH
When weather's in conditionJ
Will go there in a submarineJ
Providing we've permissionJ
But if they say we may not goK
We must respect their wishesP
And you and I will just keep dryC
Because we are not fishesP
-
They say to fly so very highC
Is not exactly pleasantQ
They say to go deep down belowK
Is not quite safe at presentQ
But you and I don't care for thatR
And if there's time for spendingS
When work is done we'll have our funJ
By simply just pretendingS
-
The earth is quite a jolly placeP
And we don't care for flyingS
And things that creep down in the deepT
Are sometimes rather tryingS
So if they'll grant a holidayH
Or even only halfU
We'll lie upon some grassy placeP
And think of things and laughU
