We Mean To Say Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBADEED AFGGFGGHHG IJGGJKGGGG

We mean to say it never has been grantedA
That anyone but England could decideB
In the crease or at the wicketC
Just exactly what was cricketC
And of course I mean to say we have our prideB
The great old game was as it were inventedA
On the playing fields of Eton and all thatD
And to try to steal our thunderE
When you think we've made a blunderE
Why dear old bean that's talking thro' the hatD
-
We mean to say the game originatedA
With us back in the dear old top hat daysF
And the gentlemen who played itG
By their sterling methods made itG
A top hole game for sportsmen hence the phraseF
So hang it all If something 'isn't cricket'G
It's our prerogative to say so flatG
And it's cheek you know cool cheekH
When you dash in so to speakH
And take the words out of our mouths like thatG
-
We mean to say there's quite a choice of phrasesI
That you might use if you must make a fussJ
Curse away of you feel hotG
But it's simply bally rotG
To apply our own pet shibboleth to usJ
There's the code you know our code we would remind youK
We made it for ourselves and mean to stick itG
And to try to knock us flatG
With a boomerang like thatG
By gad It isn't done It isn't cricketG
