Albert King of the BelgiansA
Lived for his whole reign thro'B
The father and friend of his peopleC
Soldier and statesman tooD
When his armies rode to the carnageE
'Twas their King who rode at their hearB
To battle as great Kings battledF
And Albert the King is deadG
-
Albert King of the BelgiansA
Looking at doomed LouvainH
Wept for the plight of his peopleC
Grieved for his country's painH
But the pride of a King upheld himI
The strength of a true King stayedJ
And the love of a wise King triumphedK
Thro' the travail undismayedK
-
Albert King of the BelgiansA
After the red war's closeL
Seeking no rest from his laborsM
As a builder now aroseN
Lending his life to serviceO
Turning to tasks anewH
Healing his country's war woundsP
Builder and comforter tooH
-
Albert King of the BelgiansA
Died as a Man would dieK
Prone on earth's broad bosomQ
Under the open skyK
To a swift and merciful passingR
Here went at the end of his spanH
A greater that King of his peopleC
A wise and well loved manH
