The Shorter Week Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGGF ABH EIJJI ABK EKLLK ABM NOPPO

I worked for fifty hours a weekA
And someone said to meB
'Don't be a serf Throw off your chainsC
And show the world you're free 'D
So I cut down my working hoursE
And found upon the wholeF
The leisure time I had to spareG
Good for my body's carking careG
And better for my soulF
-
I worked for forty hours a weekA
And someone said to meB
'Release your bonds you shackled slaveH
Show all the world you're free '-
So I reduced my working hoursE
And found in leisured lullI
The more I sought to play the moreJ
Amusement had become a boreJ
And life was rather dullI
-
I worked for twenty hours a weekA
And someone said to meB
'Awake you mutt Snap out of itK
And show the world you're free '-
So I cut out my working hoursE
And found that joy had flitK
Upon black melancholia's brinkL
I sometimes used to sit and thinkL
And sometimes merely sitK
-
I worked for not one hour a weekA
And someone said to meB
'You lazy coot Arise and shineM
You call this being free '-
So I resolved I'd better farN
Rejoin the toiling mobO
But when I rose and looked aroundP
To my intense digust I foundP
Someone had pinched my jobO
