The Old Brass Rail Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFG HIJIKLML DNONPQRQ STUTVBCB

Foot on the rail in the olden daysA
For all the world to seeB
A jolly old lot they took their potC
All unashamed and freeB
Passing their jest from lip to lipD
Puffing away the foamE
Till a small voice cried from the path outsideF
'Ma says you're to come on home 'G
-
Foot on the rail they faced the worldH
And cared not who should knowI
And many they went thro' a life mis spentJ
As man a man must goI
Straight to the dogs from the old brass railK
Lost and ruined and wreckedL
But he went to his fate with the game played straightM
And he went with his head erectL
-
Then came the camel with his lip adroopD
Calling an end to funN
Tho' his cause was strong his way was wrongO
And his task was most ill doneN
Turning a man to a furtive sneakP
Stealing by ways obscureQ
Bad if you will was the old old illR
But worse by far was the cureQ
-
Oh man will sin as his fathers sinnedS
Since ever this world was madeT
But if he must sin then let him sinU
In the open unafraidT
Foot on the old brass rail againV
For all the world to seeB
A jolly old lot who takes his totC
All unashamed and freeB
