The Lyre-tailed Menura Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCCD EFEFGHGGH IJKJLMLLM NENMOPOOQ

Far in the forest depths I dwellA
The master mimic of them allB
To pour from out my secret dellA
Echo of many a bushland callB
That over all the forest spillsC
Echo of many a birdland noteD
When out about the timbered hillsC
Sounds all that borrowed lore that fillsC
My magic throatD
-
I am the artist Songs to meE
From all this gay green land are spedF
And when the wondrous canopyE
Of my great fronded tail is spreadF
A glorious veil at even's hushG
Above my head I do my partH
Then wren and robin finch and thrushG
All are re echoed in a rushG
Of perfect artH
-
Here by my regal throne of stateI
To serve me for a swift retreatJ
The little runways radiateK
And when the tread of alien feetJ
Draws near I vanish ever proneL
To quick alarm when aught offendsM
That secret ritual of the throneL
My songs are for my mate aloneL
And favoured friendsM
-
I am the artist None may findN
In all the world a match for meE
Rare feathered loveliness combinedN
With such enchanting minstrelsyM
In a land vocal with gay songO
I choose whate'er I may requireP
I wait I listen all day longO
Then to the music of a throngO
I tune my lyreQ
