The Kick Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DEFGGF AA CCA HH IIJ KKLDDL MMNCCFirst I tried a Dry Martini | A |
But found not one teeny weeny | A |
Semblance of a kick in any kind of this | B |
Then I sampled a Manhattan | C |
But 'twas much the same with that 'un | C |
And as impotent I found an Angel's Kiss | B |
- | |
So I drank the menu thro' | D |
Side car Bronx and Gin and Two | E |
Such innocuous concoctions left me sad | F |
And I yearned with eager yearning | G |
For a cocktail sudden burning | G |
That might give a man a jolt and make him glad | F |
- | |
Then a fellow somewhat seedy | A |
Down at heel and seeming needy | A |
said 'If it's a kick you're seeking come with me ' | - |
So we went into a garden | C |
That to me seemed partly Arden | C |
Partly Eden and we sat beneath a tree | A |
- | |
Here my friend produced a bottle | H |
Drew the stopper from its throttle | H |
And pouring out a nip said 'Drink this quick ' | - |
No least hesitation followed | I |
I threw back my head and swallowed | I |
Oh boy Oh res and furies What a kick | J |
- | |
Green lightnings and blue blazes | K |
Fierce stars in fiery hazes | K |
Pink elephants that flapped about the sky | L |
When I woke some five hours later | D |
Feeling queer at the equator | D |
'Great Scott How do you make that stuff ' said I | L |
- | |
'First of all ' he proudly stated | M |
'Take a pint of methylated | M |
Stir in varnish an' some 'air oil just a drop | N |
Then if pep should still be lackin' | C |
Add turps an' a tin of blackin' | C |
Me own invention called the Fitzcray Flop ' | - |
