The Grey Goshawk Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABCCCB DDDEFGFE HHHIJJJI KKKHLLLH

There is a flutter in the treesA
And now a sudden dread uneaseA
Stills all the bushland melodiesA
Amid the gumsB
Stills now the song of wren and thrushC
Robin and honeyeater hushC
Now with a swoop a whistling rushC
Grey goshawk comesB
-
I am the threat the dread kingD
Grim Azrael is on the wingD
And every little living thingD
Dares scarce a breathE
And now a parrot shrill with fearF
Flies dodging there and doubling hereG
Thro' inlaced limbs in mad careerF
From lusting deathE
-
Grey ghost grey death I work my willH
O'er forest dense o'er wood hillH
And on some tree top rend my killH
With reddened beakI
There is no have in the treeJ
There is no habor safe from meJ
In many a singing sanctuaryJ
My meat I seekI
-
Beware The swift grey ghost is outK
Be still Grey death lurks near aboutK
Crouch close Shrink low But have no doubtK
I've marked my killH
Grim nemesis I never failL
Gaint hunger is my spur my flailL
I feast And now away I sailL
O'er the far hillH
