The Germ Chaser Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AAAABBAACCDD EEFFGGHIJJKK BBA LLMMNNOO PPQQRRSTUUVVI knew a careful lady once | A |
Who read a book by Dr Bunce | A |
A wise authority on wogs | A |
That roam about in dust and fogs | A |
Indeed he pointed out all air | B |
However pure held germs somewhere | B |
They clung to door knobs crawled on floors | A |
Inhabited small change in scores | A |
In fact there scarcely was a thing | C |
To which some foul germ did not cling | C |
Ready to leap and work its will | D |
To some poor luckless human's ill | D |
- | |
The lady closed the book and sighed | E |
And all content within her died | E |
This pleasant earth for her became | F |
The haunt of wogs and life a game | F |
Of hide and seek She joined the band | G |
Of grim germ chasers in the land | G |
She scoured and scrubbed examined food | H |
Which thus far was all to the good | I |
But when she strove to disinfect | J |
Her home 'twas worse than mild neglect | J |
No hospital smelled half so bad | K |
And then I fear she went quite mad | K |
- | |
Her eye took on a maniac glare | B |
She saw germs lurking everywhere | B |
She hung up mottoes such as this | A |
'Ten thousand germs in every kiss ' | - |
She would not handle coins or take | L |
Another's hand for friendship's sake | L |
Scarce dared to eat or draw a breath | M |
For fear she might imbibe her death | M |
She sprayed her husband heels to head | N |
With crude carbolic till he fled | N |
But since she had means of her own | O |
She much preferred to live alone | O |
- | |
When going into town one day | P |
Wrapped up and muzzled in a way | P |
Quite microbe proof from foot to crown | Q |
A passing motor knocked her down | Q |
And where she's sleeping soundly now | R |
The germs have got her anyhow | R |
The point of this sad tale is here | S |
Better be dead than live in fear | T |
Better live like a Stone Age man | U |
Before germ consciousness began | U |
Better take chances seems to me | V |
Than try to dodge what you can't see | V |
