The Faith Of Old George Jones Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCC DEDEFGFG HCHCIJIK LMLMCCCC

War raged around this troubled worldA
When I was but a ladB
And into battle men were hurledA
As some ambition madB
Moved kings on their unstable thronesC
To bring the world uneaseC
Mad days I'll grant said old George JonesC
But not as mad as theseC
-
They fought for power fought for gainD
For land and plunder thenE
They fought for ends that they made plainD
And understood of menE
But in this strangely restless ageF
And this world's changing sceneG
Men fight and die while nations rageF
For visions half unseenG
-
They fight for theories untriedH
Ideals untested creedsC
And seek their ends thro' fratricideH
While hate's rank passion breedsC
On this red soil Must I a manI
Unlettered pierce the mistJ
And bind myself so to some strange planI
Fascist or SocialistK
-
I am a man It is enoughL
I ply a peaceful tradeM
What should I know of this queer stuffL
Of which their dreams are madeM
Small is the wisdom mankind ownsC
But as his knowledge growsC
It seems to me said old George JonesC
His hard won wisdom goesC
