The Exception Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCCD EFEFGHGGD EAEAIDIID JKJKCLCCL

I dance upon the wash house roofA
And fill my hair with strawsB
And from my fellows keep aloofA
I'll tell you why becauseB
The glare in every eye I seeC
I hear their talk inaneD
For sure as two and two are threeC
All all are mad as mad can beC
And I alone am saneD
-
Jones says if we grow too much breadE
The people may not eatF
And Smith declares in nervous dreadE
More boots mean more bare feetF
Black says the price of gold must jumpG
Ere men was rich againH
White says the price of gold must slumpG
For all the world is off its chumpG
And I alone am saneD
-
I laugh and stand upon my headE
Upon the wash house roofA
If such an act men did not dreadE
I'm sure and certain proofA
They'd see me right side up Why notI
The thing's as plain as plainD
But they look grave and gabble rotI
For all the world is off its dotI
And I alone am saneD
-
I am the great economistJ
I stick straws in my locksK
For I've the truth that all have missedJ
In this world's paradoxK
If all mankind would but agreeC
Here lies our only hopeL
That two and two must equal threeC
They'd all grow sane again like meC
And I'd stop chewing soapL
