They had a new gnu at the Zoo	A
And nobody knew	A
Tho' the keeper they say had a clue	A
And that's probably true	A
Since he knew a new gnu was due	A
And well he knew too	A
That the mother would hide it from view	A
As a natural gnu	A
Will do	A

For the instinct innate in the gnu	A
Known only to few	A
Is to hide a new gnu lest it rue	A
What ill doers do	A
Why should nature we wonder imbue	A
A beast like a gnu	A
With such caution This fact hitherto	A
Few knew to be true	A
Did you	A

But they've found it at last at rhe Zoo	A
Such a shy little gnu	A
White of tail and the coat that it grew	A
Of indefinite hue	A
And now I suppose a long queue	A
Will be waiting to view	A
This nice little new Zoo gnu	A
Such sights ever drew	A
Quite a crew	A
	-
But who knew the new gnu at the Zoo	A
For the first day or two	A
Who guessed where 'twas hidden and who	A
As new rumors flew	A
Ever thought ever dreamed ever drew	A
Some vague hint or grew	A
Suspicious Where was he Who knew	A
Not the crane not the white cockatoo	A
Who ejaculates 'How do you do '	-
Not the apes all emblazoned in blue	A
Not the owl with his dreary 'Too woo '	-
Nor tapir nor tiger who slew	A
His prey 'mid the ginat bamboo	A
Once back of Bengal in Kooloo	A
Not elephant not kangaroo	A
None knew none knew	A
Not aman not a beast in the Zoo	A
From its hub to its furthrest purlieu	A
But the new gnu knew	A
Too true	A
