When Vandal and when Goth had gone | C |
Long long beyond great Caesar's day | B |
The Arts that sought for heights sublime | D |
Still scaled Olympus scorning time | D |

And we who tread this little earth | E |
Seeking for profit or for fame | F |
And count one life's poor efforts worth | E |
The meed of all the world's acclaim | F |
How do we count What do we bring | G |
To earth's great final reckoning | G |

Oh are we not as little boys | H |
Striving to conquer sea and air | I |
Playing a while with futile toys | H |
To fight the bogey of despair | I |
While in the end invention's lure | J |
Finds us relief but never cure | J |

Invention Men may late or soon | K |
Thro' high ambition's urge aspire | L |
And so aspiring win the boon | K |
Of great and ultimate desire | M |
But art Or talkies Nothing loth | N |
