The Dinkum Aussie Block Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EFFFFGG HHIIJJKK

What have we missed Now he returns no moreA
We are left with but our blindness to deploreA
But concentrating on his spats insteadB
Missed all the lure of that impressive headB
Caricaturists gazing at his feetC
Drew little else and deemed the sketch completeC
Likewise cartoonists whose gaunt fingers creptD
Unconsciously to limn him as they sleptD
-
And we poor Aussies of the rough hewn 'dile '-
Think to salve our vanity the whileE
Who said 'Though we've a gargoyle for a faceF
At least 'tis typical of our strong race'F
Where are we now Where is our last excuseF
For owning features so unlike a BruceF
The Bruce round whom admiring artists flockG
Because he owns the dinkum Aussie blockG
-
He kept his block and keeping it becameH
A classic type to spread his country's fameH
While we poor groundlings with our eyes cast downI
Saw only feet to bolster his renownI
Could we not raise our eyes And now bereftJ
Of pride we've but this consolation leftJ
Still humble members we plain as we areK
Of that proud race that claims him avatarK
