'Yer honor please ' the prisoner saidA
'It isn't wot you thinkB
To look on wine when it is redA
Or alco'olic drinkB
Is not among me little waysC
I been teetotal all me daysC
-
It ain't the wine it ain't the beerD
It ain't the gin an' twoE
That bows me 'ead in sorrer 'ereD
'Tain't no fermented brewD
That druv me on to sin an' strifeF
Hark 'Ere's the story of me lifeF
-
When I was just a little kidG
I was a model childH
Wot I was tole to do I didG
Reel innercint an' mildH
But bein' wise an' unlike someI
At one year old I 'owled for rumI
-
Me nurse wot was a strict t tJ
Aimed my young soul to bilkK
An' every day she flooded meJ
Wiv quarts an' quarts of milkK
Oh 'ow the stuff coursed thro' each veinL
An' set on fire me tiny brainL
-
At five as well may be believedM
I was a little toughN
For by that then I 'ad conceivedM
A cravin' for the stuffN
I swiped it from each neighbor's doorD
An' roamed the district seekin' moreD
-
The cravin' sir it got me downO
When I grew to a manP
I raided dairies thro' the townO
Pinched bottle billy canP
An' never could resist no'owQ
The fascination of a cowR
-
It ain't the rum it ain't the beerD
Oh 'ow I wish it wasS
That brings me ignominy 'ereD
'Ave pity sir becosS
It was the demon milk I vowsS
That made me pinch that 'erd of cows '-
