Dear friends I'm DeakinA
No no mistakeB
You're wide awakeB
It's ALF that's speakin'A
I wish to makeB
A few remarks about Eh WhatC
O no I'm notD
The least bit changedE
It's been arrangedE
You understandF
Between these gentlemen and meG
We fused you seeG
For the er welfare of the landF
Come gentlemen I do insistH
I am the sameI
I'm DEAKIN the ProtectionistH
And I declare I'm not to blameI
There never has been any change in meG
It's all arranged We fused you seeG
No harm to fuseJ
And I am certain you'll excuseK
Us all when once you fairly grasp the factL
That this arrangement is a patriot's actL
'Twas neither somersault nor slipM
'Twas statesmanshipM
Yes yes Joe CookN
And others tookN
A pledgeO
As I allegeO
Henceforth to vote Protection to a manA
Well yes they ranA
Freetrade some years agoP
But they won't advocate it now Oh noP
I say again I've not changed in the leastQ
I leave that all to themR
Their love for the er tariff has increasedQ
AhemR
What Wobblers NayA
Ah do not blame them prayA
These gentlemen are neither false nor weakS
But my good friendsT
And they will make amendsT
A light has broken on them so to speakS
They're all er fiscal converts as it wereU
Now my dear sirU
If you will interjectV
Time and againA
How can the audience expectV
Me to explainA
I tell you I've NOT changedE
It's ALL ARRANGEDE
Why ever since I've been in politicsW
I've always advocated the um erU
What nonsense SirU
TricksW
MER
I challenge you to prove my policyR
Has ever been Well yesX
Yes I confessX
I used to call them names But don't you seeR
That is a thing of ancient historyR
I tell you it has now all been arrangedE
And I've not changedE
O well well I admitY
I did abuse them just a little bitY
'The wreckage of all parties' That was itY
'Black Labor party' yes and 'Tories ' tooZ
I said that trueZ
But can't you see I ask you please to tryA2
They've changed not IA2
They've had a washB2
They've all been madeC2
Whiter than snow I'm sure you understandF
And henceforth Anti SoshB2
And not FreetradeF
Will be their party brandF
But to return to my Eh Who's that speakin'A
I tell you I am DeakinA
Who dares to say I'm notF
I am the same brave whole souled patriotF
Iam I AMR
if you will interject O dF
Er gentlemen I'd have you understandF
We are a bandF
Of staunch Protectionists If it appearsD2
A trifle strangeE2
That after all these yearsD2
These gentlemen should changeE2
I ask you gentlemen to please excuseK
The FuseJ
You comprehend I wave my magic wandF
And they respondF
By bowing meekly to my fiscal creedF
Nay nay No GreedF
For Office caused this unaccustomed sightF
'Twas Country love and er a Sudden LightF
These friends of mine have all come into lineA
And after this their fiscal faith is mineA
That is I mean to sayA
That mine is theirs until the Judgement DayA
I trust good people I have made it plainA
No no my friends will never change againA
I tell you with my hand upon my heartF
They would no more trick me than for my part I'd ever doF
So false an act or think of tricking youF
