Sanctuary Scorned [1936] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDDEEC FGHIJKKEEJ EELLLIIEEL LLLLLEELL

Oh is there not one place on earthA
Where man's goodwill has gone from birthA
Thro' adolescence with its rageB
Into a kindly mellow ageB
A tolerant maturityC
Mayhap some tropic coral isleD
Where even man no more is vileD
If such a place be anywhereE
Ah take me there Ah take me thereE
And let me know securityC
-
Is there no haven heaven bentF
Where economic argumentG
Falls flat where war and talk ofH
Are with forgotten things of yoreI
Anachronistic odditiesJ
Where mankind's mental food is peaceK
And bliss and brotherhood increaseK
If such a place be anywhereE
Ah take me there Ah take me thereE
And feed me such commoditiesJ
-
Where phonograph or wireless blareE
Is never on the ambient airE
And calm night follows placid dayL
As silent seasons steal awayL
Tuned to a sweet tranquillityL
Where never 'mid the traffie's roarI
Red Death claims yet one victim moreI
If such a place be anywhereE
Ah take me there Ah take me thereE
I go with meek docilityL
-
Where tender sky to placid seaL
Bends down in perfect harmonyL
Where mute nymphs in a smiling bandyL
Come as I loll on silvery sandL
And bent upon adoring meL
Pass soothing fingers thro' my hairE
Were such a land and were I thereE
I should arise and yawn and sayL
'Take me away Take me awayL
This deadly dump is boring me '-
